A Software AG Case Study
Telkom SA SOC Limited, a leading South African communications provider serving fixed-line, mobile, ICT and data markets, faced a move toward converged services but was held back by separate IT stacks, operational silos and inconsistent network monitoring. The company needed to better align its IT landscape with business architecture, improve demand management and increase transparency to support convergence and control costs.
Telkom implemented Alfabet IT Planning & Portfolio Management and Alfabet Enterprise Architecture Management (the Karabo project), mapped architectures to TM Forum/eTOM and created a single master application list. Automated, on‑demand reports now link project and financial data, cutting weeks of manual effort to under two days, streamlining divisional reporting to a single day and reducing the application list by ~70%. The result: clearer governance, improved collaboration, faster prioritization of ~700 annual IT demands and better, faster decision‑making.
