SOA Proves to be a Smart Investment For Bank Mandiri

Bank Mandiri, Indonesia’s largest bank with 25% market share, 1,000 branches and 3,200 ATMs, set out to modernize its payments business to reduce transaction time and cost, improve customer retention, and enable innovative cashless solutions as the country moved away from cash. The bank needed a faster, more reliable way to integrate corporate customers and multiple delivery channels without costly custom development for each channel.

Mandiri implemented Software AG’s webMethods integration platform (ESB) to provide host‑to‑host integration (first deployed with Pertamina), enabling a universal interface and parameterized gateway across branches, ATMs and online channels. The solution went live in weeks, cut processing from 15 minutes to under 2 (more than 7× faster), eliminated hand-offs and most errors, reduced new‑biller setup from ~100 days to about 20 man‑days, drove higher fee income and retention, onboarded 11 corporates with ~100,000 transactions in year one, and earned seven industry awards.
