Royal Dirkzwager - Customer Case Study

Royal Dirkzwager, a long-established leader in maritime information and communications technology that tracks ship locations for about 800 organizations, faced exploding data volumes and growing customer demand for precise, global vessel tracking and new services. Traditional ship transponders only reached about 40 km offshore and the move to satellite tracking — with roughly 120,000 ships transmitting every two seconds — overwhelmed their systems and threatened service quality.

They implemented Software AG’s Digital Business Platform—Apama for real-time analytics and webMethods for integration—to ingest, filter and act on IoT sensor streams. The result: real-time message handling rose from 500 to 1,500 messages/sec, live tracking extended from coastal limits to global coverage, accurate customer-accessible ETAs and customizable alerts were launched, and new services now roll out in weeks, improving port coordination, cost control and safety.
