Openreach, the infrastructure division of BT Group created in 2006 to ensure equal access to BT’s local network, faced the typical challenges of a large telecom with complex, siloed processes and manually managed risk controls. Relying on spreadsheets and SharePoint left gaps in end-to-end accountability, limited risk visibility and made compliance, decision‑making and consistent service delivery difficult.
Working with a consultant, Openreach implemented a Business Controls Framework supported by Software AG’s ARIS GRC solution to automate audits, workflows, testing, remediation and multi‑level sign‑offs, with dashboards and a single repository for documentation. The result was an organization‑wide risk and controls culture, stronger confidence in processes and billing, fewer revenue‑impacting issues, identified and remediated control gaps, over 1,000 document updates and improved management visibility for better business decisions.
