A Software AG Case Study
This HMO, founded in the 1940s and serving more than 2 million members through about 300 clinics, 20 diagnostic centers, 100 pharmacies and several hospitals, faced rising digital demand (1.5 million online users, 500,000 mobile users) and growing operational strain. Siloed applications and a 25-year legacy estate made patient records hard to access, limited auditing and monitoring, and slowed backend processes—creating an urgent need to open legacy data to modern platforms and improve end-to-end process control.
The organization implemented Software AG’s Digital Business Platform—using webMethods for integration, BPM and operational intelligence and ApplinX for legacy modernization—to unify systems and automate processes. The result was instant EMR access for clinicians, automated alerts and reminders, faster provider payments, and new services such as a video-based Children’s World and a pregnancy tracking app; legacy constraints were removed, process visibility and efficiency improved, and the HMO accelerated innovation and member growth.
