A global leader in media and market research that tracks the viewing and buying habits of roughly 10 million consumers was struggling to deliver time-sensitive ad performance reports from a disk-bound database holding tens of terabytes of data. Customers sometimes waited up to 20 seconds for campaign reports and internal security checks timed out on more than half of queries, degrading satisfaction and threatening the firm’s fast-moving ad analytics business.
The company deployed Terracotta BigMemory Max as an in-memory data store (refreshing ~200 GB daily) and used its high-performance Search API for complex queries. Data access times fell from 20 seconds to about 20 milliseconds (≈99.9% reduction), query timeouts were eliminated, customer satisfaction and confidence improved leading to longer-term contracts, and the firm plans to expand its BigMemory store to several terabytes.
