KMC Global Controls & Automation, a supplier of custom control panels and automation services, faced mounting pressure to compete beyond price by offering value-added services and remote monitoring—especially for small and midsize manufacturers that lack IIoT expertise. The company needed a way to help these customers adopt Industrial IoT, diversify revenue, and meet growing demands for remote operations and support.
KMC built an integrated communications device into its control panels and launched a machine-data-as-a-service on Software AG’s Cumulocity IoT, taking an iterative approach that starts with a few key data points and rapid dashboards. The solution made IIoT accessible to smaller manufacturers, improved decision-making, uptime and on-time shipments, created a new XaaS revenue stream for KMC, and delivered expected gains such as ~20% higher productivity and ~4% revenue uplift.
