Case Study: Dataport achieves massive mainframe capacity gains and up to 99% main CPU load reduction with Software AG’s Adabas & Natural zIIP enablement

A Software AG Case Study

Full Speed Ahead for Dataport’s Mainframes

Dataport is a German public-sector IT service provider supporting several states and municipalities with 2,500 employees, roughly 90,000 digital workspaces, 5,000 servers and four mainframes holding about 17,000 TB of data. Facing digitalization pressures, rising mainframe utilization, throttled processor costs and demand from new customers, Dataport needed a way to increase capacity and performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

Working with Software AG, Dataport modernized its Adabas & Natural environment and enabled IBM zIIP offload for Natural workloads. The change cut main-processor load by as much as 99% for Natural components, slashed batch runtimes (payroll runs fell from ~90 to ~20 CPU minutes), allowed onboarding of new states, postponed machine purchases and freed capacity for future AI/IoT initiatives—delivering faster, smoother services for customers.
