Fabick Cat Creating a data warehouse with custom order processing systems

Fabick Cat, a long-established Caterpillar dealer with more than 300 machines and a century of service, needed unified reporting after acquiring a second dealership. The company ran an IBM AS/400 order system while the acquired dealer used a custom OpenVMS/RMS order-processing system, and an initial FTP-based file-transfer approach proved slow, manual, and data-intensive—so Fabick Cat sought a data warehouse to consolidate analytics and reporting.

They implemented CONNX DataSync, a micro-batch change-data-capture solution that incrementally copies only changed records into a SQL Server data warehouse, supports scheduled or near-real-time updates, and minimizes impact on source systems. The result was a consolidated SQL Server warehouse and unified reports across business units, with most syncs completing in seconds and no noticeable performance hit to the OpenVMS system.
