A Software AG Case Study
Cargolux Airlines, a Luxembourg-based all-cargo carrier with about $1.4 billion in annual sales and a fleet of Boeing 747 freighters, faced growing internal inefficiencies as business units developed competing systems, data inconsistencies and unoptimized IT spending. To remain competitive, management launched a review to identify process, reporting and data-management weaknesses and to establish a service-oriented foundation for future IT.
Working with IDS Scheer and using the ARIS platform, Cargolux ran a three-phase BPM program: 12 months of process mapping (600+ models) that produced 180+ improvement proposals, followed by master-data library design and systems-architecture planning, plus a Process Web for shared process visibility. The project met all objectives, streamlined data management, improved process and IT transparency, provided a basis for future IT strategy and governance, and returned benefits far exceeding its cost (investment was under 20% of validated savings).
