A Software AG Case Study
Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA), Germany’s Federal Employment Agency, is one of the country’s largest public employers with more than 100,000 staff and a sprawling IT estate supporting 160,000 networked PCs. Over years of growth the environment became highly heterogeneous—isolated applications, numerous interfaces and business-critical processes—creating challenges for availability, scalability and business–IT alignment. The BA needed a way to document, analyze and steer its IT landscape toward a future-proof target architecture.
In 2009 the BA implemented an Enterprise Architecture management solution based on the ARIS platform with IDS Scheer Consulting, expanded in 2011 with an IT roadmap tool. The ARIS-based central repository and decentralized web‑inventory keep system information continuously up-to-date, enable analysis of redundancies, dependencies and support gaps, and drive roadmap planning. The result is a consolidated, organization-wide management information system that improves transparency, decision-making for stakeholders and alignment between business and IT.
