Bridging Digital Islands from Jungles to Jenius with Mobile Banking

PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional (BTPN) is a leading Indonesian bank with a legacy role in pension distribution facing a huge digital challenge: serving diverse rural and urban customers across 17,000 islands amid a mobile revolution, rising millennial demand and a population where over 64% remained unbanked. The bank needed to modernize while protecting its core systems and connecting disparate back-end systems to scale new mobile services.

Working with Software AG and webMethods, BTPN implemented an integration-driven, microservices and DevOps approach to unify systems and accelerate delivery. That platform enabled the launches of Wow! (USSD for basic phones) and Jenius (smartphone app), transforming BTPN into a transaction-based bank, opening 85,000 accounts in three months, deploying 171,000 agents, cutting branch costs, improving compliance and earning industry recognition.
