Automating fertiliser supply in Western Australia with Telstra and Cumulocity IoT

CSBP, a Wesfarmers subsidiary based in Kwinana, Western Australia, supplies fertiliser to hundreds of farms across the state. Faced with a manual, sporadic supply chain—farmers reading floating tank gauges and phoning orders, long delivery distances and peak-season stockouts—CSBP needed an automated, cost‑effective way to monitor tank levels and reduce lead times.

Working with Telstra and Cumulocity IoT, CSBP deployed more than 150 Captis NB‑IoT sensors (26 growers in the 2019 pilot) to measure tank levels every 15 minutes and report data every four hours, triggering alerts and automatic refill orders. The solution eliminated many stockouts, streamlined inventory and delivery planning, improved the farmer experience, and is being considered for water, diesel and weather monitoring across WA.
