Alliance Healthcare Deutschland AG, a leading German pharmaceutical wholesaler with more than €4 billion in group revenues, 25 subsidiaries and a network supplying over 21,000 pharmacies, needed to modernize its 20+-year-old Wapha inventory system. Built on Adabas & Natural and running on an expensive mainframe, Wapha limited agility for regulatory and market changes and drove high operating costs; the company’s goals were platform independence, IT simplification and protection of its existing application investment.

Software AG supported a one-to-one re-host of Wapha to a virtualized Linux environment using Adabas & Natural modernization tools, webMethods integration and Global Consulting Services, alongside ITIL process and outsourcing optimizations. The project finished ahead of schedule with no business disruption, preserved millisecond pharmacy response times, sustained peaks of over 150,000 database requests per second (and more than 10,000 order positions), significantly reduced operating costs, improved stability and future-proofed the system for further integrations and new Software AG technologies.
