A Smart Telecom Down Under Software AG & Telstra Transform Australian Water Management

Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and technology company, faced a rapidly changing telco landscape and the strategic opportunity of IoT while water utilities and governments were under pressure to cut waste, digitalize operations and improve services. To expand into IoT services and address these industry challenges, Telstra sought a carrier-grade, secure and developer-friendly platform to take to market.

In partnership with Software AG’s Cumulocity IoT, Telstra launched the Cumulocity IoT Solution Accelerator for Water Management, which collects pressure and flow data from meters and infrastructure to detect leaks, optimize distribution and provide near-real-time dashboards. Piloted with Busselton Water, the solution is projected to reduce leakage by up to 20%, cut costs by about 15% and lower per-capita consumption 10–35%, while enabling Telstra to grow its water-industry IoT offerings.
