Preview of the Global Investment Bank Case Study

Big data platform for market Risk management and business Scenarios processing for Investment bank’s portfolio Trading

Global Investment Bank, a top-tier European investment bank operating in more than 70 countries, needed a scalable way to handle big data analytics for market risk management after three failed attempts to build the system internally. With more than 500 traders, over 5 million open trades, and 20,000 daily stress-test scenarios, the bank required a secure platform to process massive volumes of portfolio data and support risk analysis decisions. SoftServe was selected to deliver the new solution.

SoftServe built a two-part Big Data platform consisting of Risk Finder Data Services and a Streaming Framework, using technologies such as Hadoop, HDFS, Spark, Kafka, and Scala to ingest, enrich, process, and distribute streaming and batch data. The solution now supports 5–9 million trades and 16,000+ risk scenarios, processes 135 million rows per minute, and lands 120 GB of data per minute into HDFS, with near-linear scalability and room to grow 3x without hardware upgrades. SoftServe’s platform improved efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility for market risk analysts and enabled the bank to launch additional Big Data use cases.
