Tropo Finds a Hybrid, Global Cloud Infrastructure Solution at SoftLayer

TROPO, a communications software company that helps developers build voice and messaging apps, needed to create a global cloud infrastructure from scratch after spinning out from Voxeo. Its challenge was to preserve API performance and end-user experience while keeping latency below 100 milliseconds, especially for real-time media workloads that required bare metal performance. Softlayer was chosen for its hybrid cloud options and worldwide points of presence.

Softlayer implemented a mix of bare metal and virtual servers across global data centers, enabling TROPO to deploy flexibly and quickly. The results included real-time media processing with telco-grade service, reduced latency, and the ability to reproduce customer environments in hours; in one case, TROPO used Softlayer to recreate a carrier’s environment in just three hours. Softlayer also helped TROPO win an emergency-response contract, proving it could notify one million people in 90 minutes.
