A Softeq Case Study
VeriSkin Inc., a US tech startup awarded an NCI SBIR grant to develop a non‑invasive skin cancer screening device, needed a rapid proof‑of‑concept and contracted several engineering teams. They selected Softeq to deliver an FPGA‑powered, LED‑enabled handheld medical device (Qualcomm Snapdragon SD410-based) with embedded firmware, Wi‑Fi support and a touchscreen UI to enable quick clinic‑level screening.
Softeq developed the core firmware, custom Linux BSP/drivers and integrated the handheld scanner into a modular system with real‑time graphing, calibrated LEDs, photodetectors and secure SSH utilities. Delivered on budget, the device scans lesions in about 2 minutes and — currently in US clinical testing — distinguishes benign from malignant growths with 96.7% detection in suspect cases, enabling faster, lower‑cost diagnostics and reducing unnecessary biopsies.
