Enabling More Consistent User Experience With Screen Orientation On Convertible Laptop Pcs

SOFTEQ was engaged by a global semiconductor company developing computer processors to produce a prototype virtual button driver for convertible (360° hinge) laptops running Windows 7 and 10. The customer, having previously worked with SOFTEQ on multi‑utility application development, needed SOFTEQ’s low‑level programming expertise to ensure a consistent user experience for toggling screen orientation across clamshell, tent, stand, tablet and book modes.

SOFTEQ implemented a driver that monitors BIOS events and tilt sensors to enable or disable the Tablet Mode auto‑rotate button depending on device posture, developed via a Waterfall process. The result: SOFTEQ delivered a Microsoft‑certified driver that is available in the Windows Update Catalog, providing a consistent, measurable improvement in UX for end users and an easy deployment path for OEMs.
