Delivering Real-Time Boat Data On Android

The customer, one of the world's oldest international boat regattas in the USA, needed a way to present live boat telemetry to fans on Android devices. SOFTEQ was engaged on a fixed-price proof-of-concept to build an augmented reality mobile application capable of markerless overlays and real-time data delivery.

SOFTEQ implemented a markerless AR Android app with a web-backend that ingests real-time geolocation from boat-mounted sensors; as users aim a phone or tablet at a boat, the app overlays name, class, speed, rank and more, using position algorithms that account for the Earth's curvature for accurate display. The project successfully demonstrated SOFTEQ’s ability to deliver live, accurate AR overlays for regatta spectators, validating the approach for wider deployment.
