Commercial Solution To Build Android-To-Anything Multimedia Streaming Apps
Rovi Corporation needed to bring its Connected Platform to Android so consumers could discover, manage and stream personal digital media from phones and tablets to home entertainment devices. To meet that challenge Rovi engaged Softeq to extend the Connected Platform with a commercial Android SDK and sample apps that would support DLNA/UPnP-based interoperability across DMS, DMR and DMP devices.
Softeq delivered a custom SDK (Java wrappers atop the existing C Platform API), sample media server/player/controller apps and a developer package, overcoming legacy-code and Android limitations. The Softeq-built solution produced a stable DMS, enabled Android devices to beam media to PCs, set-top boxes and NAS devices, and notably passed DLNA 1.5 Certification, allowing Rovi’s customers to build and sell branded Android smart-home entertainment apps.
