Gantom, a U.S. manufacturer of special-effects lighting for the themed attraction industry, needed a way for technicians to download and install firmware upgrades to its DMX-compatible fixtures from an iPhone. Gantom engaged Softeq to build the Gantom DMX Updater, leveraging Softeq’s mobile app development and firmware implementation expertise to create an iOS utility for maintenance of DMX-compatible lighting equipment.

Softeq delivered an iOS app that manipulates the audio stream to produce RS-485 serial signals sent over an auxiliary cable (with a special workaround for iPhone audio‑chip signal attenuation) to install custom firmware; the team followed a Waterfall process and completed the project on time and on budget.
