Leading Manufacturer Company, a leading manufacturer of ultrasonic, vortex, differential pressure, turbine flow meters, and BTU meters, needed support for both Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU in its flow meter and BTU meter devices so they could communicate with other manufacturers’ Modbus-based equipment. The company selected Softdel for its industrial domain expertise, in-house Modbus stack development capability, and value-add engineering services.

Softdel optimized its Modbus RTU and TCP stack to fit the available ROM and RAM on an Atmel MCU running FreeRTOS, and integrated it with the customer’s C++ BTU meter application. Softdel also added a BACnet interface with boot-time selection between Modbus and BACnet, delivering a native Modbus interface in just 2.5 months. The result was increased sales, including significant large orders where Modbus support was a prerequisite.
