Silentnight, the UK’s largest branded bed manufacturer, needed to upgrade its Microsoft environment but lacked an accurate view of its existing licences, users and installed software across a business grown through acquisitions. Working with Softcat PLC, the company sought help to understand its Microsoft licensing position and prepare for upgrades to domains, Exchange, Windows 7 and Office.

Softcat PLC recommended and implemented Snow Software’s licence management tools, including Snow Inventory, Snow Licence Manager and the Snow Software Recognition Service, and enrolled Silentnight in the Microsoft SAM Programme. By combining licence review data with installation records, Softcat PLC produced a clear Effective Licence Position, discovered Silentnight was mostly over-licensed rather than under-licensed, and helped the company save thousands of pounds while putting regular audit and licence-reallocation processes in place.
