COWI designs Tel Aviv railway bridge with 113.6-meter superstructure using SOFiSTiK

The customer, COWI, faced the challenge of designing and constructing a complex railway bridge, BR08, south of Tel Aviv. The project featured an extremely tight site plan, a skewed substructure, and the need to launch the bridge superstructure immediately adjacent to an existing railway station. To manage this complexity, COWI utilized SOFiSTiK's engineering software for detailed analysis and design.

SOFiSTiK's solution involved a detailed shell element analysis model for both the bridge and all temporary works, which was crucial for capturing the transverse and torsional behavior during the launching process. The use of SOFiSTiK's Construction Stage Manager and Design Elements functionalities was instrumental for the successful design and construction engineering, enabling the safe launch of the 113.6-meter superstructure with a maximum shifting force of 24,000 kN.
