A Sofar Ocean Case Study
The University of Tokyo needed to study wave-ice interactions in the harsh Arctic Ocean but faced challenges deploying instruments that were durable, cost-effective, and could provide real-time wave spectrum data without being compromised by the extreme polar environment. They chose Sofar Ocean's Spotter buoys to address this problem.
Sofar Ocean provided its Spotter wave buoys, which were deployed in the Arctic Ocean. The buoys successfully collected precise observational data, survived being frozen over and adrift for an entire winter, and were recovered for reuse. The solution provided the research team with critical data that validated theoretical models and led to hardware and firmware improvements for future polar deployments by Sofar Ocean.
