Luode, a Finnish consultancy and leading provider of ocean data for offshore wind site developers, faced the challenge of collecting accurate, real-time wave data at remote Baltic Sea wind farm sites. These locations were far offshore, beyond cellular range, and had sparse historical data, which complicated site assessment, design, and safe maintenance planning. To overcome this, Luode turned to Sofar Ocean and deployed its Spotter wave buoys.

Sofar Ocean's solution involved deploying fleets of 3-5 Spotter buoys at each site to capture high-resolution, real-time wave data transmitted via satellite. This provided Luode and its clients with the critical information needed to validate models for long-term site design and environmental impact assessments, and to make safe, efficient short-term go/no-go decisions for maintenance operations. The data from Sofar's platforms ultimately helped streamline the entire process of assessing, designing, and maintaining offshore wind sites more effectively.
