Case Study: City of Rubí achieves greater transparency and citizen participation with Socrata Open Data

The City of Rubí, a rapidly growing municipality near Barcelona, needed a more transparent, citizen-focused way to publish municipal information and improve public engagement. Facing expanding services and a demand for better democratic dialogue, the council prioritized making official data openly accessible and usable so residents could explore, analyze and build on public datasets.

Rubí partnered with Socrata to launch opendata.rubi.cat, an interactive open-data portal that debuted with 20 datasets and tools for searching, graphing and mapping municipal information. The platform drew nearly 120,000 visitors in its first three months, has since expanded datasets (finances, environment, maps, historical budgets) and continues to drive workshops and outreach to deepen citizen participation and improve public resource management.
