Powering Ujjwala Yojana, India's Gas Subsidy for 50m Women

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas partnered with SocialCops to help implement Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, India’s flagship LPG subsidy scheme aimed at providing clean cooking fuel to 80 million women below the poverty line. The challenge was to scale the program efficiently while improving access, tracking applications, and ensuring safe installation of new LPG connections.

SocialCops provided data intelligence tools including a real-time tracking dashboard and a mobile data collection app to help the Ministry identify high-impact locations for 10,000 new LPG centers, monitor 100 million applications, and verify safe installations. The program has delivered 72 million new LPG connections so far, with technology enabling better oversight and faster decision-making across the scheme.
