DCHS boosts sexual health awareness with Social Change UK, reaching 64% of LGB residents

Social Change UK was commissioned by Derbyshire Community Health Service (DCHS) to increase awareness of NHS sexual health services across Derbyshire, particularly amongst hard-to-reach groups. The challenge was to address low service awareness, misconceptions about who the services were for, and specific barriers faced by vulnerable populations and those who miss appointments.

The solution implemented by Social Change UK was a multi-faceted campaign informed by extensive research. They created targeted concepts like "Jiggle Wiggle" for residents over 35, "#ownthemoment" for young people lacking confidence, and initiatives to distribute free condoms and advice through food banks and outreach centres. A key campaign, "Not coming," aimed to reduce missed appointments. Social Change UK also produced a comprehensive guide to local services and promoted an inclusive message that sexual health matters to everyone, regardless of sexuality or age. The campaign's impact was measured through pre-campaign awareness tracking, with the initiative set to conclude in April 2019.
