Chicago Marathoners Receive Digital Encouragement with Moving Words App, Road-Tested by SOASTA

Havas Worldwide, working for Liberty Mutual’s 2014 Chicago Marathon sponsorship, faced the challenge of keeping 3,000 runners connected with friends and family across the race course through a custom Facebook-based “Moving Words” web and mobile app. To make sure the experience would work smoothly on race day, Havas turned to SOASTA and its CloudTest® load and performance testing platform.

SOASTA helped Havas validate Facebook user flows, supporter comments, and load capacity, testing up to 2,000 concurrent users while guiding the team through Facebook’s development policies and token requirements. The app performed without issues at the marathon, helping generate 5.2 million impressions, 160,000 likes, 18,000 messages, and 76,000 comments, while supporting about 98% of Liberty Mutual’s registered runners in finishing the race.
