Aiming a million extra Concurrent Users at Myspace

MySpace needed to performance-test a new music video service in New Zealand and wanted to see how its infrastructure would handle an added load of 1 million simultaneous virtual users. To create that scale of traffic, MySpace turned to SOASTA and its CloudTest platform.

SOASTA deployed 800 Amazon EC2 instances in under 20 minutes, generating more than 77,000 hits per second alongside live production traffic. The test helped MySpace identify capacity thresholds, monitor the system in real time, and quickly reallocate servers as needed to withstand the load.
