PDX Inc. Creates Next-Generation Healthcare Insights as a Service for Pharmacies

PDX, Inc. provides pharmacy technology and services—powering prescription processing, records access, reconciliation and store-based mail order—for more than 10,000 pharmacies via its PDX Classic and Enterprise Pharmacy System (EPS) platforms. As part of a growth initiative, PDX needed to monetize and deliver value-added analytics across massive, disparate datasets (billions of rows and millions of daily record changes), but its legacy data warehouse lacked the performance, chain-wide reporting, scalability and HIPAA-compliant security required to meet SLAs and enable new analytics services.

After a proof-of-concept, PDX selected Snowflake’s cloud-native data warehouse. Snowflake deployed quickly and delivered dramatic performance gains (initial load in ~12 minutes vs. 1,800; record processing ~16M/hr vs. 200K/hr), built-in HIPAA-compliant encryption, and a SaaS model that removed infrastructure management. The result: secure, scalable chain-level analytics, non-disruptive BI workloads, and a new data-driven revenue stream for PDX.
