Case Study: Kiva achieves data-driven lending and democratized analytics with Snowflake

A Snowflake Case Study

Preview of the Kiva Case Study

Enabling Data-Driven Lending with Snowflake

Kiva, the San Francisco–based nonprofit that connects lenders with borrowers to alleviate poverty (over 3 million borrowers, $1B+ in loans, 1.8 million lenders), struggled with a legacy on‑premises data warehouse that was costly, complex to administer, and unreliable. The system required four full‑time staff to maintain, produced slow, inconsistent reports, and prevented organization‑wide BI and timely decision‑making.

Kiva migrated to Snowflake and integrated Fivetran, Snowplow, Salesforce, and Looker to create a cloud‑native, zero‑management data platform. The move cut administration to one FTE, delivered a single source of truth, democratized analytics across customer service, operations, product, finance, and marketing, and sped analyses from hours to minutes—enabling automation, better reporting, and accelerated growth of Kiva’s lending community.
