DoubleDown Interactive is a Seattle-based maker of popular free-to-play casino games (part of IGT) that relies on analytics across game design, marketing and customer experience. Their challenge was ingesting and unifying massive, heterogeneous data—about 3.5 TB of JSON game-event logs per day plus MySQL, Splunk and third‑party feeds—through a fragile pipeline that used MongoDB and lengthy ETL jobs, causing data loss risk, limited detail and daily processing times of more than 24 hours.

By moving ingestion to AWS Kinesis/S3 and adopting Snowflake (integrated with Talend), DoubleDown now loads JSON natively and flattens millions of elements in minutes, runs five‑minute loads, and processes a full day’s data in about 15 minutes. The change was implemented in three months, eliminated data loss, unlocked SQL-based analytics and root-cause analysis, and cut costs by nearly 80%, while improving reliability and enabling faster product and marketing decisions.
