Kinderkamer Posters A Custom Cart Implementation on a MODX E-Commerce Site

Kinderkamer Posters is a Dutch family-run web shop created by Michiel Zoer and his wife to sell clean, Scandinavian-style prints for children’s rooms. They wanted a simple, beautiful store that supported Dutch iDeal payments and avoided heavyweight platforms like Magento or Shopify, while keeping product and design control inside Michiel’s favorite CMS, MODX. The main challenge was implementing a flexible, non-disruptive checkout and cart experience that fit the site’s custom styling and lightweight maintenance needs.

Michiel solved this by integrating Snipcart on top of MODX, using Template Variables to turn pages into product entries, building a small API tied to a hybrid Vue.js app, and writing custom AJAX to render a bespoke cart UI instead of the default modal. The functional setup took about 30 minutes (a day including styling), delivering a lean, maintainable decoupled shop with a smooth checkout, helpful docs/support, and a clear roadmap for adding webhooks, Mailchimp automation and further inventory/checkout refinements.
