The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) faced a significant challenge in managing the overwhelming volume of packages delivered to its residence halls, which totaled over 80,000 annually. This process was highly inefficient, requiring staff to manually log each package twice and costing the university over $200,000 per year in operating expenses. To address this, UNLV partnered with vendor Smiota to implement a new package management system.

Smiota provided a fully customized solution integrating its Mailroom software and smart lockers, called PoDs. This automated system streamlined the entire process, reducing the time spent per package from 3.2 minutes to just 13 seconds. The results were substantial: UNLV doubled staff productivity and achieved annual savings of $73,140, which were reinvested into student resources and staff raises.
