MHNexus connects over 156 hospitals with Smile Digital Health in 2 years

MHNexus, a key implementation partner for Malaysia's Ministry of Health, was mandated to build a national FHIR-based Health Information Exchange (HIE) to unify the country's fragmented healthcare data. They faced significant federal and state-level challenges, including inconsistent data from facilities with varying digital maturity, an increasing burden from chronic diseases, and siloed systems that hindered coordination and preventive health strategies. To address this, MHNexus selected Smile Digital Health and its Smile Health Data Platform for its FHIR-native architecture and scalability.

Smile Digital Health implemented its unified Smile Health Data Platform as the foundation for the national HIE, a practitioner portal, and a patient portal. The solution successfully integrated 156 public hospitals, processing over 255,000 transactions per second. This enabled real-time data exchange, reduced duplicate tests, and provided policymakers with holistic analytics. In a state-level pilot in Negeri Sembilan, the platform connected over 1.4 million patient records and was used daily by more than 1,000 clinicians, significantly improving care coordination and laying the groundwork for nationwide expansion.
