Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada reduces development time with Smile Digital Health

The Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada (CANet) faced challenges with data silos and healthcare systems interoperability, which complicated clinical care and research for arrhythmia patients. To overcome this, they needed a secure, interoperable platform to unify data from various sources. They partnered with vendor Smile Digital Health to implement a solution based on the FHIR standard.

Smile Digital Health provided a FHIR-based data repository that formed the backbone of CANet's VIRTUES platform. This solution significantly reduced development time, enabling and accelerating their research study to readiness. It allowed for the storage of data from wearable devices and enabled new clinical and research workflows that were not possible before, creating a foundational knowledge base for arrhythmia cases.
