How Switzerland's largest wine tourism event reinvented itself through an online booking platform during the Covid-19 crisis

Office des Vins Vaudois (OVV), representing the second-largest winegrowers' association in Switzerland, faced the cancellation of its major annual wine tourism event, the Caves Ouvertes Vaudoises, due to the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. The organization urgently needed a solution to safely reorganize the event that typically brought together 12,000 people. They turned to the vendor, Smeetz, to implement an online booking platform.

Smeetz developed the mescavesouvertes.ch platform in under 60 days, transforming the single weekend event into a series of intimate, bookable tastings over six months. This agile solution unified nearly 400 winemakers on a single marketplace, allowing them to manage their own capacity and bookings. The project successfully digitized the wine tourism experience for OVV's members and created a new, flexible model for the event, opening the door for future digital collaborations with Smeetz.
