City of Ottawa uses SMATS iNode™ Crowdsourced Traffic Data Analytics in Various Traffic Projects

The City of Ottawa Transportation Services needed a trustworthy, simple way to monitor live traffic and collect travel-time data across city streets to manage congestion, road closures and construction impacts. SMATS Traffic Solutions was engaged to provide this capability using its iNode™ data analytics platform and crowdsourced (anonymous “floating‑car”) data.

SMATS Traffic Solutions deployed iNode™ virtual sensors to deliver real‑time travel times, route comparisons and before‑and‑after studies without installing hardware. The platform is used across Traffic Services—with over 20 monitored links—producing charts and CSV exports that validate projects, support decisions, quantify impacts (for example during the Hog’s Back Bridge closure), and improve incident management and signal optimization.
