Reducing risk and improving safety with Smartvid.io, Autodesk’s BIM 360 and machine learning

Skanska USA, one of the largest construction and development firms in the U.S., needed a scalable way to monitor and reduce on‑site safety risk across thousands of projects and a deluge of unstructured photos and video. To support its Injury‑Free Environment® goals, Skanska USA piloted Smartvid.io’s industrial photo and video analytics platform (using SmartTags and VINNIE machine‑learning) to automatically surface safety hazards from narrated walkthroughs, drone footage and field photos.

Smartvid.io integrated with Skanska’s Autodesk BIM 360 to auto‑sync and index jobsite media, apply safety SmartTags (for example, Missing Hard Hat and Missing Safety Vest), and make tagged photos and video snippets searchable and shareable for training. The solution removed the need for manual organization, improved risk analysis and detection, enabled phase‑specific safety trainings, and built a dynamic library of best practices and improvement opportunities to help Skanska USA scale safety insights across projects.
