Case Study: Western Australia Mental Health Commission achieves real-time project transparency and streamlined reporting with Smartsheet

A Smartsheet Case Study

Preview of the Mental Health Commission Case Study

Western Australian Mental Health Commission supports the community through transparency

The Western Australian Mental Health Commission is a state agency that leads mental health, alcohol and other drug reform across WA, managing a wide range of programs on a $1.013 billion budget. Facing fragmented processes built on Excel and Word, the Commission needed better real‑time visibility, collaboration and consistent tracking across projects that involve government, NGOs and community partners.

Starting with a 2015 opt‑in trial, the Commission implemented Smartsheet and scaled to nearly 200 users (about 80% of staff), using centralized, template‑based sheets for project, program and operational management, risk and audit, meetings and ministerial reporting. The platform cut setup time, improved reporting, accountability and version control, enabled secure remote access, streamlined recurring tasks like the Annual Report, and freed teams to focus on delivering better outcomes for the community.
