Tanner Health Uses Smartsheet to Streamline Accreditation Processes and Focus on Quality and Patient Safety

Tanner Health is a five-hospital, non-profit health system serving more than 450,000 people across west Georgia and east Alabama. To maintain Joint Commission accreditation, its small accreditation team ran time-consuming, paper-based mock surveys and tracers—processes that required transcribing notes, emailing departments, and waiting for responses, with large tracers taking up to three days and the team completing only one tracer per week.

By adopting Smartsheet, Tanner digitized tracers and survey tracking with mobile forms, photo attachments, automations, and dashboards so findings are recorded and routed in real time. The change more than doubled efficiency, increased tracers from one per week to three–four (150 tracers in 2024), eliminated bulky binders and duplicate document handling, and improved collaboration and readiness for surveys while supporting a stronger culture of safety.
