St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) is a 179‑bed community hospital in St. Thomas, Ontario, providing a wide range of acute and regional services. Rapid population growth and rising patient census exposed an outdated, manual process for tracking admissions, discharges, occupancy, and staffing during the daily bed huddle, leaving leaders unable to reliably analyze data or inform operational decisions.

STEGH implemented Smartsheet, with clinical teams entering occupancy, staffing, access and flow metrics from desktop or mobile—up to 30 users at a time—creating a centralized, standardized data source. The change streamlined reporting, made morning huddles more focused on problem solving, improved staffing allocation and overflow planning, and provided the evidence base to support more informed clinical and operational decisions.
