A Smartsheet Case Study
Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, a northeast Indianapolis district serving over 16,000 students, needed a better way to collect and securely share academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional information so teachers and counselors could support each learner beyond disciplinary records. Their original Google Docs system was too cumbersome to provide timely, district-wide insight into students’ needs.
The district adopted Smartsheet to centralize ABAI data, automate approvals and workflows, and share targeted reports with staff. The change produced a comprehensive “whole student” view, sped summer and interschool enrollment timelines from weeks to days (or minutes for approvals), reduced administrative busywork, and freed staff time for direct student support—without heavy IT involvement.
