Salt Lake City Uses Smartsheet to Improve Community Engagement and Support for the Homeless Community

Salt Lake City, Utah’s capital with more than 209,000 residents, faced a growing homelessness challenge and had about 7,000 community reports to manage last year. The Homeless Engagement and Response Team relied on scattered spreadsheets, email and mapping tools, which made tracking cases, coordinating with partners, and providing timely updates slow and error-prone.

By adopting Smartsheet—using mobile forms, automated workflows, maps and dashboards—the team centralized reporting, routed notifications to the right responders, and tracked cleanups and referrals in real time. The city cut response times in half, reduced cleanup turnaround from about a week to two days, saved roughly 450 hours a year, and freed staff to focus on new outreach and programs.
