Oerlikon, a Switzerland‑headquartered global technology group with more than 10,000 employees, faced growing pains as its IT project portfolio expanded in 2018. Project decisions were often ad hoc (“who screams the loudest”) and the global SAP roll‑out strained IT capacity, creating frustration and a clear need for a transparent, objective way to prioritize and manage projects.

Working with Smartsheet and partner AMX, Oerlikon implemented a PMO, global time‑tracking and KPI‑driven workflows with standardized templates and real‑time dashboards. The solution consolidated project status and budgets, sped reporting and onboarding, enforced consistent prioritization across three strategic pillars, and gave leadership and controllers a single source of truth for tracking progress, spending and budget forecasts.
