A SmarterServices Case Study
Vanderbilt University Medical Center – Center for Programs in Allied Health, which serves 75–100 students across five intensive certification programs, faced the challenge of supporting learners with widely varying backgrounds, learning styles, and non‑cognitive skills. Although accreditors required a learning‑readiness assessment, the center needed an efficient way to interpret those results and act when students struggled. The vendor SmarterServices’ SmarterMeasure assessment was already used in orientation but had not been fully leveraged to address these individualized needs.
Working with SmarterServices and led by Student Support Services Manager Rachel Adams, the center expanded SmarterMeasure use beyond a baseline test: students, faculty, and instructors receive immediate graphical/textual reports (with LMS integration), and staff review results when students are struggling or on academic probation to identify specific gaps (e.g., reading comprehension, typing speed). SmarterServices’ SmarterMeasure enabled targeted meetings, resources, and curriculum discussions, helping the center provide tailored interventions, improve departmental collaboration, and plan end‑of‑program assessments to measure student growth.
