Middlesex Community College faced the challenge of high failure and retention issues in its online courses. Under Dr. Yi Guan-Rackowski, the college partnered with SmarterServices and used its SmarterMeasure learner readiness assessment to better understand non-cognitive factors like motivation, self-discipline, and time management that affect online student success.
SmarterServices’ SmarterMeasure was integrated into the college’s online orientation for new online students, with staff monitoring results, sending targeted outreach, and providing training and resources. After analyzing over 3,000 students and correlating personal-attribute scores with final grades, Middlesex Community College reported up to a 10% reduction in online course failure rates following SmarterMeasure implementation.
